MOUNT VERNON — Preparations for 2013 are underway with the Knox County Fair Board as the board members make plans for the coming year.
“This is our busy time of the year,” board president Tammy Lahmon told the News, as members this week will be attending the Ohio Fair Managers Association Convention which runs today through Sunday at the Columbus Convention Center. The convention includes a full schedule of workshops dedicated to a variety of topics pertaining to managing a county fair. “These will all keep us up for the following year,” said Lahmon.
The board met Wednesday evening at the fair board office to discuss current activity.
An insurance concern was brought up by OSU Extension agent Larry Hall as youth will be transported to the OFMA Convention this weekend in Columbus. OSU Extension has regularly insured a 12-passenger van for trips in the past, but an issue exists if there is a need for a 15-passenger van. “It is a very big liability on the fair board’s part,” said Lahmon, who will be making more contacts this week to resolve the issue. The board gave their approval for Lahmon to pursue the use of a 12- or 15-passenger van.
