MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon has a new law director. Former Knox County assistant prosecutor Charles “Chip” McConville took the oath of office this morning in Mount Vernon’s Municipal Courtroom and replaces former law director William Smith, who retired.
McConville, who served as assistant county prosecutor for five years, said he is excited about starting a new chapter in his career.
“This is something I’ve been looking at for a while. I live in the city of Mount Vernon with my son, Curran, and wife, Kimberly, and I like the city,” he said. “This is an opportunity to get into a new area of [law] practice. I look forward to settling in.”
McConville, appointed Monday by the Knox County Republican Central Committee to fill Smith’s unexpired term, will have to run for the position in this year’s election.
