WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two Knox County residents have been nominated for acceptance into a U.S. service academy by U.S. Rep Bob Gibbs (R).
Calvin Shoop of Centerburg is in the nomination pool for the Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy and Military Academy at West Point.
Logan Smith of Fredericktown has been nominated for the Military Academy at West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy and Merchant Marine Academy.
In order to be considered for acceptance into a U.S. service academy, students must be nominated by the Member of Congress who represents their district.
“It is my honor and privilege to nominate the following students for entry into the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the U.S. Naval Academy,” said Gibbs. “I wish them all the best as they continue the application process, and I thank them all for their desire to serve our country.”
The remaining class of 2017 nominees are as follows:
Seth Brock, Nashport — Air Force Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Merchant Marine Academy.
Isaac Hammonds, Dover — Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Merchant Marine Academy.
Cole Johnston, Nashport — Naval Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Merchant Marine Academy.
Derald Madson III, Zanesville — Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Merchant Marine Academy.
Jeffrey McKnight, Zanesville — Air Force Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Naval Academy.
Michaela Ricciardi, New Philadelphia — Naval Academy and Merchant Marine Academy.
Timothy Silver, Carrollton —Air Force Academy and Naval Academy.
Ethan Slaboden, Zanesville — Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Military Academy at West Point and Merchant Marine Academy.
Michael Wegner, Zanesville — Military Academy at West Point.
