MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man is in jail awaiting formal charges after assaulting a cashier and taking an unknown amount of money from the register at the Town Centre Marathon, 600 W. High St., just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Christopher Jobin, 41, is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery and probation violation.
According to the Mount Vernon Police Department, Jobin purchased a newspaper and “jumped over the counter and emptied the cash register.”
Jobin allegedly struck the cashier in the head twice before leaving the store. She reported the incident alerting authorities that the suspect was heading west.
Officers located Jobin in the west end of town where he was chased to the Kokosing River. He was apprehended at the Harcourt Motel, according to radio traffic.
Capt. George Hartz of the Mount Vernon Police Department told the News this morning he does not believe this robbery is connected to a Dec. 10, 2012, robbery of the Duke and Duchess Shoppe on Coshocton Road.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance.
