MOUNT VERNON — Knox County’s 9-1-1 operations currently work out of two dispatch centers — one dispatching city law enforcement and fire personnel and one addressing county first responders. Consolidation of the two centers will change that process but not everyone is on board with the potential site change.

The consolidation would bring the dispatchers housed at the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office to a new call center in the basement of the Knox County Services building on East High Street.

Knox County Sheriff David Shaffer expressed concern regarding the justification of cost to create a new location.
