MOUNT VERNON — Emergency Management Director Mark Maxwell discussed staffing with the EMA board Thursday, explaining that he spoke with a director in Butler County who has five full-time employees on staff.

“My concern,” he said, “is regardless of the size of the county, the expectation of EMA is the same. We need to look at some point at getting someone else in EMA. The other concern I have is that without someone around to know what’s going on, we need someone else to have the knowledge base. I’m just planting the idea as a seed.”

Currently 9-1-1 and EMA share an administrative assistant. If the 9-1-1 consolidation moves forward, the 9-1-1 director and assistant will move out of the offices located next to the EMA office.

Maxwell was concerned the move could cause some strain on his department, noting that neighboring counties have at least one or two additional support personnel.
