MOUNT VERNON — Dispatchers from both the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office spoke during Tuesday’s public hearing regarding the possible consolidation of the two dispatch centers.
Beth Neighbarger, who has worked at both dispatch centers, said she is concerned about the noise level in a consolidated center.
“You are adding everything to one center and it will be louder, Neighbarger said. “It’s already chaotic at times, and loud at times, at the sheriff’s office.”
Neighbarger added that as a county resident, she is concerned about how the noise would affect communication between herself and a dispatcher if she was in need of emergency medical assistance.
“I don’t want to have to worry about what’s going on in that room if the dispatcher can’t hear me and I have to repeat myself over and over again,” she said.
