MOUNT VERNON — Ohio State University Extension-Knox County and the Knox County Soil and Water Conservation District will be moved into their new location by the end of next week. This comes after Knox County purchased and renovated an office facility at 160 Columbus Road.

Knox County Commissioner Teresa Bemiller sees this move as a long-term benefit which should save money for the county over a period of years. “I don’t see why it should affect them at all; they’ll still be together,” said Bemiller about any adjustments customers with OSU Extension or SWCD will have to make.

“This is not unusual across the state during the recession and cuts in funding. Many counties had to make decisions about what they did with OSU Extension in particular,” said Bemiller. “And many of them looked for places to put them where they didn’t have to pay. They kind of had to start planning a little bit more for the future. We think that it’s a good fit with the two of them together.”
