MOUNT VERNON — Because education is a service industry, the major operating costs for school districts are those centered around personnel —salaries and benefits.

School administrators are among the often unseen cogs in the machine.
The number of administrators in school districts varies, as illustrated by the accompanying chart showing the number of administrators in districts determined by the Ohio Department of Education to be similar to the Mount Vernon City Schools district.
The compensation of school administrators also varies by district, educational level, scope of job duties and years of experience.
