MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Health Department has received another shipment of flu vaccine for children, ages 6 months to 18 years of age. The vaccine which includes both nasal spray and shots will be available by appointment only on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m.
“This new shipment includes 50 doses of the nasal spray and 30 doses in shot form,” said Jackie Fletcher, RN, director of nursing for the health department. “We are hoping the later hour offering (until 6 p.m.) will allow those parents who work during the day to bring in their children. We are asking that parents call to make an appointment to avoid long waiting times.”
The vaccine is available as a nasal spray or a shot for children ages 2 to 18 years old. For infants, age 6 months to 2 years old, and those unable to take the nasal spray, the vaccine will be available as a shot.
There is no cost for the nasal spray vaccine. There is a charge for the flu shot.
To make an appointment, call the health department medical clinic at 399-8009.
