MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council approved a $44 million budget Monday night after passing legislation accepting a $34 million supplemental budget.
City Auditor Terry Scott said the budget includes a $6.2 million capital improvement budget that will fund several large projects in the city this year. Among them are the new maintenance service building being planned for use by the street department, water distribution and collection departments ($3.9 million); bow string bridge at Foundation Park ($550,000); East Chestnut Street improvements ($633,000); street paving ($400,000); West Pleasant Street brick replacement ($250,000); and replacement of the retaining wall at Mound View Cemetery.
