Bystanders saw two juveniles set fire to this car on the Richard Hunter property on Mary Street in Howard, Monday afternoon. They admitted to the fire when firefighters caught up with them, Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District Chief Larry Stimpert told the News. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is following up the investigation. The call came in just before 2:30 p.m., and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire that destroyed the abandoned Volkswagen Rabbit. The heat slightly warped the aluminum siding on the house. A sign change was made on South Gay Street on Monday to help truck drivers select the correct lane for the turn onto East Chestnut Street and Ohio 13. The Ohio 13 sign was moved from the East Gambier intersection to East Vine Street for drivers coming off East Gambier and Ohio 229 to pick up the left turn lane. Mount Vernon Street Department worker Tom Hinkle is in the bucket fastening the sign to the traffic light arm. (Photo by Virgil Shipley)
