COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Columbus District Office of Investigative Services is investigating several suspicious telephone calls that have been received by Knox and Morrow county residents from individuals claiming to represent the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The suspects telephone their victims and claim to be raising money to help the patrol combat impaired driving and texting while driving violations. Victims are asked to provide their address in order to receive a self-addressed, stamped envelope and are then instructed to return a monetary donation in the envelope.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol does not solicit donations from private citizens. Anyone who receives a similar telephone call should not provide any personal information to the caller.
Everyone is encouraged to report similar suspicious calls to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Critical Information and Communication Center at 614-799-6633 or by dialing 677.
