DANVILLE — The Village of Danville recently purchased a new dump truck. Monday, the members of village council approved funds to outfit the truck.
A spreader, hitch and asphalt chute will be added, and different lights will be placed on the back of the truck. The truck will be sent to Ace Truck Equipment Co. in Zanesville where the work will be completed. Village Administrator Robert Shipley said the work will cost approximately $6,800 and could be done in the next couple of months.
Shipley also reported that the maintenance position has been filled. Freedom Desich, who worked for the village for seven years, has been hired for the position.
Mayor Bob Dile gave his state of the village report during Monday’s meeting. Dile summarized the capital projects completed in 2012. He noted the village sanitary sewer project was completed using state funding, as well as village funding. The East Main Street sewer project was constructed using Community Development Block Grant funds and public well No. 5 was cleaned and a defective pump motor was replaced.
Dile also noted the fiscal well-being of the village is good.
In other news:
•Council decided to wait until the next meeting to name a replacement for Danny Slone, who resigned from council. So far, they have received two letters of interest for the seat on council.
•A first reading was given on a resolution authorizing a lease agreement between the village and the Danville Area Youth League for use of the baseball field in the village park.
•Police committee chairman Joe Mazzari reported that police officer Chad Lishness will attend the police bicycle academy this spring.
•The next meeting of the Bicentennial Committee will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Danville Fire Station.
Council went into executive session at 8:27 p.m., to discuss the purchase of property. No action was taken.
