MOUNT VERNON — A rise in cases with Children Services at the Knox County office of Jobs & Family Services was the report to the Knox County Commissioners on Monday morning. Knox County JFS Director Matthew Kurtz gave a quarterly departmental report to the commissioners along with Jana Shira, administrator of the Children and Family Services Division.
Statistical comparisons were shown between 2011 and 2012, revealing a rise in cases in numerous categories. Examples of increases included child abuse and neglect investigations rising from 430 to 461; families in need of services cases rising from 51 to 66; families served by parent education cases rising from 26 to 40; children in out-of-home care/custody to agency rising from 22 to 32; and adult abuse and neglect investigations rising from 56 to 75.
