DANVILLE — There is no shortage of services for those age 60 and over living in the area of Danville and eastern Knox County. The main provider of senior services in this area is Sanctuary Community Action.

Accounting for most of the service funds at The Sanctuary is the home delivered Hot Meals program, which has been in existence since 1999, originally through donations. County levy money then supported these efforts beginning in 2004. The kitchen at the Danville United Methodist Church is rented to prepare these meals which are then delivered on five delivery routes across all of eastern Knox County, as far north as Jelloway and Brinkhaven and as far south as Bladensburg, in eight townships. “They are so appreciative of these meals,” said Sanctuary director Barb Mickley. “And they develop a real rapport with the drivers.”
