FREDERICKTOWN — Fredericktown school superintendent James Peterson has been selected to serve as the new superintendent of River Valley Local Schools in Marion, although his appointment will not be official until the River Valley school board meets Feb. 14.
Peterson confirmed that he has been offered the position but said there has been no discussion as to a start date.
“My years here in Fredericktown have been excellent,” Peterson told the News, “and did not have anything to do with my decision to apply at River Valley.”
The decision had more to do with family matters, he said. Peterson resides in Marion and his three sons attended River Valley. He has been commuting from there since he was hired as the Fredericktown superintendent in 2009. He now has two grandchildren “on the scene” in Marion and wants to be able to spend more time with them.
“Rest assured,” Peterson told the Fredericktown school community on Tuesday, “I will continue to devote my full attention as your superintendent until the day arrives that I head west.”
