HOWARD — The East Knox school board on Monday voted to place a combination school tax levy on the May ballot. The 10-year levy includes a 1-percent school income tax and a 2.9-mill property tax. The money generated will be used to pay for the day-to-day operating expenses of the district.
Treasurer Jessi Busenburg told the News that Monday’s meeting began with an extensive executive session during which the school board met with representatives from the Auditor of State’s Office to discuss the performance audit being conducted in the district. Busenburg said the state is looking at the district’s efficiency with regard to staffing, operations, facilities, food service operations and transportation. The results of the audit are expected to be released later this year, she added.
