MOUNT VERNON — Because of a rapidly approaching deadline and delays in the process of consolidating the city and county 9-1-1 call centers, the Knox County Terrorism Advisory Team needs to find another use for the 2010 Homeland Security Grant the county received.
The panel voted last year to use the grant to pay for a generator and antennae for the consolidated call center proposed for the County Service Center, 117 E. High St. However, Emergency Management Agency Director Mark Maxwell said he discovered that not only was there a misunderstanding about the deadline for having the money committed to projects (March 31 instead of July 31), the generator and antennae project requires an Environmental and Historic Preservation Screening Report that has to be reviewed and approved at the federal level.
Maxwell said he was able to get an extension of the allocation deadline to June 30, however that’s also the deadline for having the environmental reported reviewed at the federal level.
