MOUNT VERNON — Love food? Want to refine your cooking skills for your family or even become a professional chef? If so, the new adult culinary class being offered at the Knox County Career Center might be for you.
The 6 1/2 month course is set to begin April 1, and classes will be from 5 to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Midway through the course, students will start cooking every other Saturday. The River Room at the Knox County Career Center will be open so the public can enjoy the results of the aspiring cooks’ expanding expertise. There are also plans to open the River Room on Saturday evenings in July and August to ensure students get real-world experience in food service.
The instructor for the class is culinary chef Bruce Kreidler, previously executive chef at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He is looking forward to sharing his skills with others.
“I won’t make them a chef,” he told the News, “but this is the road to become a chef. It won’t be fancy, it won’t be reality TV. The students will find out it’s hard work, but it’s fun and rewarding.”
“And you get to eat for free,” Kreidler added with a smile.
