MOUNT LIBERTY — Postal customers at the Mount Liberty Post Office may soon see a reduction in business hours as part of the U.S. Postal Service’s Postal Plan — all in an effort to save money for the failing government entity.
Around 20 local residents attended a public meeting Tuesday evening at the Mount Liberty Advent Christian Church to hear the USPS proposal for the local office. “This is an operational directive to reduce the hours of operation in offices where the workload does not begin to match the number of hours available for customer service or being paid,” said Ross Crego, Postmaster at Commercial Point who represented the USPS in the Postal Plan presentation.
Crego explained that the purpose of the meeting was to inform and to receive feedback. In the Postal Plan, post offices across the nation have been plugged into a formula where the amount of work available in that office has been “back figured” and rolled up to the nearest two-hour block, resulting in having post offices that operate for two, four, six or eight hours per day for customer service. “The workload then determines the hours of operation,” said Crego.
