MOUNT VERNON — Morgan Township Trustees are worried the township will not be adequately paid for damage to a township road damaged while Devon Energy drilled its unsuccessful shale well on the Sensibaugh farm near Utica.
Devon recently sent a check for $75,000 to Licking County, saying it was tendered “in full satisfaction of any damages to any roads or bridges in Licking County or Knox County, and townships therein caused by Devon.”
“People who live on Kirkpatrick Road should expect restoration of their road,” said Trustee Paul Hunter, explaining that the estimate the trustees had received for the road was $13,830, which includes regraveling and restoring a “dust pad” (a prepared surface for reducing dust on a gravel road) in front of one residence. He said they had initially given the Knox County Engineer’s Office an estimate of $6,200, based on the last cost of gravel they had paid, and not including the dust pad.
