MORGAN TOWNSHIP — Residents along Morgan Township’s Debolt Road are looking forward to being inconvenienced later this year by a highway project made possible in large part by Ohio Department of Transportation funding. Township trustees explained the Debolt Road Improvement Project, and its expected impact on traffic, at an open forum Monday evening.
Debolt Road begins at Arrington Road in central Morgan Township and extends 2.6 miles to the south. The lower 1.6 miles of the rural road, from a bridge over a branch of Tuma Run to Utica Road along the border between Knox and Licking counties, will be paved. The lion’s share of the $397,000 project will be covered by ODOT grants, and the township will provide $55,000 in funding as well as $19,000 of in-kind work to prepare for paving. Township funds will come from an existing 3-mill levy for road improvements.
“This has been a long time coming, and we appreciate everyone’s patience,” said Trustee Troy Rodenhiser. The consensus among residents was that any inconvenience from the project will be more than compensated by a smoother and cleaner roadway.
