DANVILLE — Cold weather didn’t stop a national march at the nation’s capital which included some local representation once again this year. More than 650,000 people gathered at The Ellipse in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 24-25, to take a stand for life and voice their opposition to the practice of abortion. This year’s Right To Life March was conducted around the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade decision which legalized abortion.
A Brewster Tours bus left St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville on Jan. 23 as 24 locals departed for a four-day trip to D.C. The trip was organized by Bobbie Thomas, a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, who has been attending the March for 14 years. “Everybody really cooperates,” said Thomas whose job was to contact the charter bus company, send out flyers to recruit participants, follow up with those who committed to the trip and seek sponsorships to help fund the trip. “They were a great help for us,” said Thomas about the Knights of Columbus who helped sponsor this year’s trip.
