MOUNT VERNON — A time to reflect on the experiences with their host moms and thank them for their hospitality was the agenda when the 2013 Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program contestants enjoyed their final luncheon Thursday at The Alcove. The luncheon was sponsored by the Mount Vernon and Knox County Chapter of Soroptimist International.
“Our focus is on women and girls,” said Sally Wright, president of the local Soroptimist chapter as she opened Thursday’s program for the DYW contestants and guests attending. As the chapter has served the area now for 57 years, Wright explained that the chapter has given to the community in many capacities through the support of numerous local projects while encouraging all to join in their efforts to promote women.
State DYW chairwoman Cheri Butcher thanked all those who have contributed to the Ohio DYW program locally as this marks the 40th year for the program in Mount Vernon. “This is always the prettiest luncheon we have,” said Butcher in thanking the Soroptimist chapter for its support. “It’s because of the support and generosity of service clubs like this that keep the program here in Mount Vernon
