MOUNT VERNON — Dennis Shinaberry and his wife Becky live on a family farm outside of Fredericktown and raise feeder lambs as well as some crops. They market 800 to 1,000 lambs a year, continuing the farming that has been a Shinaberry business for so many years that one of their farms is a Century Farm.
He also owns the neighboring farm, a Century Farm, on which his parents live. He and Becky live on his grandparents’ farm and it will be a Century Farm next year. His parents’ farm was owned by a great-great aunt and was in the family longer than the farm his grandfather bought in 1914. Their farms include approximately 200 acres.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture recognizes Century Farms for the social, economic and historic contributions made by Ohio’s founding farm families. Century families receive an heirloom certificate signed by Ohio’s governor and the director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The Shinaberrys also display a Century Farm sign at the farm.
