MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Nazarene University President Dr. Henry Spaulding II was the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon on Monday and held the attention of the large gathering with humorous anecdotes punctuating his message. His message addressed the role of the humanities in this changing technological age.
“When I first came here,” said Spaulding, “I heard the term ‘The Naz.’ I took it be an affectionate term.”
Continuing, he added, “I came to Mount Vernon to recruit for the seminary and was recruited myself.”
Spaulding explained the complimentary role he sees between MVNU and the community and between the study of humanities and the practicalities of a technology-based society.
