MOUNT VERNON — Area residents are encouraged to be aware of door-to-door solicitors who are seeking customers to switch their natural gas supplier. Residents in the east end of Mount Vernon reported they were approached by individuals representing natural gas companies on Feb. 23 telling them they are being required to switch their natural gas supplier.
The city of Mount Vernon entered into an aggregation program with Volunteer Energy where customers can save money with a locked in rate from this gas supplier contracted with the city. Individual customers also have the opportunity to select a different supplier of their choice with Columbia Gas still serving as the retail carrier. Mayor Richard Mavis told the News he understands that Columbia Gas will ultimately be out of the retail business, and customers will then have to make a choice.
