MOUNT VERNON — It will be up to the Knox County Commissioners to accept or reject the fact-finders in the contract negotiations with the 9-1-1 employees.
When negotiations with the employees reached an impasse, a fact-finder was brought into the process. The report was supposed to arrive in time for Thursday’s meeting, but did not. It is expected to arrive today.
The commissioners were also authorized to sign off on any non-contested findings.
9-1-1 Director Rick Dzik said that if the commissioners accept the findings, it should clear the way for an agreement to be reached with the employees. If they reject them, it will be back to the bargaining table.
Dzik will meet with the commissioners Monday afternoon to go over the report.
Turning over the contract settlement to the commissioners makes sense, since the 9-1-1 board as a governing body will cease to exist if enough townships and villages (and the city of Mount Vernon) approve the 9-1-1 consolidation issue. One aspect of that plan is for the 9-1-1 director to report directly to the commissioners and the governing board to be replaced with an advisory council.
