MOUNT VERNON — The Curtis Inn has been ordered to return the 2013 hotel/motel license issued by the State Fire Marshal on Feb. 7. A letter sent to owner Sucha Singh on Feb. 25 said the license was issued in error.

In addition to the notice of violation, the fire marshal’s office said the hotel was also issued a notice of opportunity for hearing, issued Feb. 21.

Dennis Ginty, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Commerce, said the issuance of the 2013 license was a mistake and the department is making adjustments to make sure a mistake like this does not happen again.

He said the opportunity for hearing relates to the suspension or revocation of the 2013 license.

Ginty said earlier this month there are two pending actions involving the 2012 license of the Curtis Inn. The division issued a Notice of Violation to the Curtis Inn (a required precursor to a hotel licensure revocation) on Nov. 30, 2012, following several inspections of the property. Also on Nov. 30, the division also issued a citation for violations of the safety provisions of the Ohio Fire Code. Numerous uncorrected violations were still found during re-inspections in December.
