MOUNT VERNON — A female seventh-grade student was walking north on South Division Street this morning, to the Mount Vernon Middle School, when a greenish silver “old, rusty Dodge pick-up truck” pulled up and asked if she needed a ride.
According to Capt. George Hartz, Mount Vernon Police Department, the girl told the driver “No.” He then told her to get into the truck; the girl ran home.
The driver, described as a heavy-set white male, approximately 35 years old, sped off toward Mount Vernon Avenue.
“She did exactly the right thing,” Hartz said.
