MOUNT VERNON — Just outside Mount Vernon, eight acres have been dedicated to a new congregation called the Church on The Mount. Nate Freeman and his wife, Kate, have been chosen by the small group of members to, through a community mission mode, bring a Christ-centered, family church building onto the acreage.
At present, Sunday and weekly services are held in the metal building at 19548 Coshocton Road. Sunday services are at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. and Friday evenings at 6 p.m. The Friday service is targeted for the youth as it is a Rock Fest featuring various Christian musicians from around central Ohio.
Freeman is a 1989 graduate of Steubenville High School where he played football, a 1995 graduate of Valor Christian College in Columbus and a 1999 graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville with a bachelor of science degree in business. In 2002, he was selected into the national leadership development program with the Social Security administration and led a national work group on homelessness. He oversaw an $8 million appropriation from Congress to help agencies nationally work with the homeless population. He worked for 10 years in this capacity.
