MOUNT VERNON — The opening of a Panera Bread location in Mount Vernon is being explored by the retail bread company, according to Mount Vernon Safety-Service Director Dave Glass.

Development of a potential site was discussed last week at a board of zoning appeals commission meeting. Glass said the proposed business site sits along Coshocton Avenue in front of Aldi’s while heading up the hill toward Walmart and would require leveling of the hill.

Engineers were to re-inspect the site to address concerns expressed by commission members. Parking matters were reportedly the main area of concern. Another meeting concerning this proposal is scheduled for Wednesday.

Calls to Panera Bread for comment were unreturned.
