FREDERICKTOWN — Fredericktown families with elementary school pupils found out that reading can be fun. Held in conjunction with the annual Scholastic Book Fair sponsored by the PTO, Family Reading Night at Fredericktown Elementary School was attended by more than 100 students and 114 parents.
Organized by Title I Waiver coordinator Linda Spurgeon and the school staff, Reading Night featured seven “stations” with different activities, most designed so that parents and their pupils could enjoy them together. Spurgeon said the event was very successful and resulted in good feedback from the families.
Parents pre-registered for up to four sessions.
One station, manned by first-grade teacher Megan Bender, gave ideas about reading to parents. While Bender gave her presentation to parents, Spurgeon said, the children were read to by the other first-grade teacher.
