MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has awarded a NatureWorks grant in the amount of $12,000 to assist the Knox County Park District and Knox County Commissioners in constructing a small children’s playground in Mount Liberty adjacent to the Heart of Ohio Trail. NatureWorks grants provide funding up to 75 percent of total project costs.
“We are thrilled to receive financial support from ODNR,” said Kim Marshall, director of KCPD. “Mount Liberty is one of the last small communities in Knox County lacking a recreational area for children to use and enjoy.”
Local funding came from the Kiwanis Club.
“Long-time partners of the park district, Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon, stepped forward with financial assistance in the amount of $4,000 to provide the required local grant match, thereby aiding our completion of this recreational improvement. We truly appreciate the Kiwanis Club’s commitment to children, quality of life and outdoor recreation opportunity in Knox County.”
