MOUNT VERNON — The city’s annual cleanup week will be held April 29 through May 3, Mayor Richard Mavis announced at his weekly press session Friday.

During that week, Mount Vernon residents can take loads of household waste — but no hazardous materials, yard waste, roofing, concrete or tires — to Allied Republic Waste, 107 Tilden Ave, and pay only half the usual fee. This year, the minimum charge is $40, so a citizen will pay as little as $20.

An ID will be required to verify residency in the city.

All loads must be weighed on the scale, so residents should go directly to the back gate behind the building.

Hours for dropping off loads will be 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

For disposal of household hazardous wastes, televisions, electronics, fluorescent tubes and tires, the Solid Waste District will hold its annual household hazardous waste day Sept. 14 at the fairgrounds.
