MOUNT VERNON — While a number of items required its attention Monday evening, Gambier Village Council also devoted discussion to fire department services. Mayor Kirk Emmert reported that discussion has been moving forward for a possible merger between College-Monroe Township Fire Department and the Mount Vernon Fire Department. The council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the merger discussion.

Emmert explained that the committee that has been discussing the merger unanimously endorsed moving forward. That committee included township, city, Kenyon College and fire department representatives as well as himself. He noted that township trustees were represented on the committee.
