MOUNT VERNON — Fred Dailey recently spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon about his life and career in agriculture. He is a Mount Vernon resident, a farmer and served 16 years as the director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
Doug McLarnan introduced Dailey and stated, “One of his claims to fame is that he was the longest serving director of agriculture in the state of Ohio. He served 16 years. In that period of time there was a lot of change in agriculture and Fred had had to ride herd on it, so to speak. Fred has an interesting life and interesting perspective on life.”
Dailey wrote and published a book titled “Ridin’ the Eastern Range,” a collection of his stories and poems about farming, his career and touching on his experiences in Vietnam.” In addition to historical and personal perspectives, it’s written with a sense of humor.
