MOUNT VERNON — One last push in support of a new tax levy for Mount Vernon City Schools was made Wednesday evening by the Our Schools Our Community committee. About 50 people braved threatening weather to attend the town hall-style meeting at the main library.
At issue is a 5.6- mills, five-year levy to appear on the May 7 primary ballot. It would raise about $2.5 million a year for the system’s high school, middle school and six elementary schools. Administrators report that deep budget cuts will become deeper if the levy fails.
