COLUMBUS — Leslie Manner, 39, a 1991 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, was stabbed to death in her Indiana Street home in Columbus, Monday morning. Her boyfriend, Jerry A. Delong, 26, has been charged with murder in the case.
Columbus police reported they had originally been called to Manner’s home at 1:21 a.m. She said her boyfriend had come home drunk, was throwing things around the bedroom and she didn’t feel safe.
Police went to the home and talked to the two separately. There was no evidence of violence and Delong agreed to leave the apartment. Police watched him walk down the street.
After police left, it was less than half an hour later, at 2:08 a.m. that a next-door neighbor called and reported hearing a “horrifying screech” from a woman.
Police arrived and found Manner inside the apartment, stabbed, and Delong with self-inflicted stab wounds in his neck. Medics pronounced Manner dead at 2:25 a.m.
Delong was taken to OSU’s Wexner Medical Center but the hospital said Tuesday they could not release any information. A person with the hospital’s media relations department explained that patients have the option of not having any information released about them.
It has been reported, however, that Delong was taken to OSU in critical condition, and was expected to survive.
