MOUNT VERNON — If the 2014 election for governor was held today, Ed FitzGerald would have the enthusiastic support of the Democrats who attended the party’s annual Spring Dinner Thursday at Parkside Restaurant & Tavern.
Speaking to a full house of about 80 party faithful, the youthful Cuyahoga County executive elicited laughter and applause from the crowd as he analyzed why he thinks Gov. John Kasich can be defeated in 2014 since his victory in the 2010 elections in Ohio.
Kasich got elected, FitzGerald said, by not talking about what he was going to do. If he had laid out his agenda of attacks on labor unions, balancing the state budget by cutting funds to public schools and local government and privatizing several state agencies, he would never have been elected in what was a close race.
