MOUNT VERNON — Two individuals were taken to Knox Community Hospital shortly after 4 p.m. Monday following a roadway accident on Delano Street.

Mount Vernon Police Capt. George Hartz told the News an 11-year-old youth was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the driveway at 213 Delano St., when the car began to back out of the driveway. It was unknown if the car was running. An open door on the car reportedly struck Ashton Bowens, 18, who sustained minor injuries.

The car rolled into a driveway across the street where it struck a 5-year-old youth on a tricycle, who also sustained minor injuries. The car then came to rest against another car parked in the driveway at 210 Delano St. The 11-year-old in the vehicle was uninjured.

The incident is under investigation with the MVPD.
