Knox County Board of Elections Director Kim Horn said preparations normally begin in earnest with the filing of candidate petitions, which have to be certified as to the correct number of signatures of registered voters.

As it turns out, there are no contested races in the May 7 election, only school, village and township issues, along with one county-wide issue, the renewal of the Developmental Disabilities tax renewal. Once the filing deadline passed, the ballots had to be prepared.

Because of the DD issue, Horn said, all the precincts in the county will have to be open and preparation work will be the same as for a “major” election.
