MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle suspects Krystal McGregor, 20, and Paul McGregor, 31, died from heroin overdoses. The couple was found dead April 18 in their Harcourt Road home.

Ogle told the News she used autopsies and scene investigation to draw the conclusion.

“Some details surrounding these deaths are still actively being investigated,” Ogle said.

The final determination of cause of death will not be made until toxicology reports are complete, which can take six to eight weeks.

“I would like to remind people that while prescription pain killers are leaders among drug overdose deaths locally and nationwide, heroin has a presence in Knox County,” Ogle said. “Since I became coroner in 2009, we have had seven fatal heroin overdoses and 41 total fatal drug overdoses in Knox County.”
