MOUNT VERNON — Recent figures released in the American Lung Association’s annual State of the Air report show that Knox County currently receives a grade of “D” when it comes to air quality. This published report is taken from data compiled by the Environmental Protection Agency with readings coming from data collector stations that monitor the air quality for each specific area.

The formula used by the ALA takes into consideration readings for ozone quality and high-particulate pollution. Knox County currently does not register readings for high-particulate pollution, rather only for high ozone readings where the air quality is graded on levels of safety.
