MOUNT VERNON — The first step in dealing with a problem is recognizing the problem exists. Then, whether it is a community issue or an individual problem, steps can be taken to deal with it.
That awareness was the focus of the “Take Back Our Community” event organized by Dave Culbertson, Thursday evening at the Glenn A. Gallagher Centre at the Ohio Eastern Star campus.
The problem is a growing drug problem in Knox County. Abuse of prescription drugs was one aspect that was brought up, as was the use of “bath salts,” but the greatest concern was the spread of heroin use and related crime that goes with it.
“Small-town America pretends the problem doesn’t exist,” Culbertson said. “It’s time to take our heads out of the sand and take our community back.”
