  • Arbor Day was celebrated Friday at Dan Emmett Elementary School with the  planting of four dogwood trees. Placing mulch around the trees were fourth graders Jeri Lynn Profitt, left and Jacob Underwood. During the program, students read short poems about trees, Superintendent Steve Short read a poem about a man and a tree and Sarah Reed put music to a poem, “Planting Trees Today,” written by Frank Goulde of Jelloway. The program was organized by the city’s Shade Tree and Beautification committee, which provided dogwood trees for every fourth grader in the city. style=
