MOUNT VERNON — Two arrests have been made in connection with the house fire that occurred at 123 Quarry Street, Tuesday, which was determined to be arson. Katelynn Cooper, 23, and Michael Blair, 23, were taken into custody and remain housed at the Knox County Jail for their roles in the incident.
“I am very pleased with the timely and professional ending that has been realized by this investigation,” said Mount Vernon Fire Chief Chris Menapace. “The Mount Vernon Fire Department is extremely grateful for the cooperation of the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Mount Vernon Police Department in assisting with the investigation. Our community is very fortunate to have a local police and fire department that work seamlessly in their efforts to administer justice. We would like to thank not only the Detective Division of the Mount Vernon Police Department, but also the Patrol Division. Their diligence played a key role in the apprehension of one of the perpetrators of this crime.”
A reward for information leading to the identification of those involved in the May 2 fire at 2 McGibney Road has increased in value.
At the time the fire was determined to be arson, a reward up to $5,000 was offered for information relating to the start of the fire. Owner of the apartment complex, Harvest Management Group, has now offered an additional $5,000 for information that leads to the identification of those responsible.
