MOUNT VERNON — Convenant Christian Church of God provides a food pantry to help Knox County residents provide for their families. Recently, The Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County and the Ariel Foundation donated funds so the pantry could purchase a cooler and freezer for perishable foods.
“We couldn’t have a pantry without community help from our church and community volunteers and from Ariel Foundation and the Knox County Community Foundation,” said pantry coordinator Judy White. Approximately 50 volunteers help on pantry day.
White said the refrigeration equipment allows them to purchase more meat and that’s important for the growing demand.
The church built a separate building last year on the church grounds because the pantry outgrew the church building. The building includes a fellowship/gymnasium where youth activities and church dinners are held.
