MOUNT VERNON — Musical excellence was celebrated Monday afternoon when the Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon conducted its third annual John Philip Sousa Awards luncheon at The Alcove. Area band directors, parents and award recipients were guests of Kiwanis during this luncheon where the top high school musicians across Knox County were recognized for their achievements.

Kiwanis President Cindy Higgs welcomed those in attendance following a noon meal and announced the various upcoming meetings and projects with the chapter before introducing treasurer Al Allender who conducted the awards portion of the program.
